I loved Columbus Park! It was the quintessential NYC neighborhood park. It is located in Chinatown right across the street from the criminal courthouse. It was filled with multiple generations of Chinese Americans, employees of the courthouse, children of all ages, and plenty of people who live on the streets. The thing I loved the most was the way ecological democracy played its way out. All of the people and cultures seemed to harmonize together. No one thing seemed to dominate the other. Children on swings played next to Chinese men and woman singing and playing cards, all while homeless people cleaned up at the comfort station and men in suits played a rough game of basketball. It was a "melting pot", I mean "stew" of a park that reflected the diverse community were it's located, and the diverse community that NYC is famous for.
